Have you done your homework? In Step #2 we finished off with a little assignment…. Research Blogging Platforms.
Our steps so far are:
Step #1 Have a good understanding of what a blog is.
Step #2 Find a blog platform.
and today,
Step #3 is simply Sign up.
Now that might sound simple, but you can avoid some pitfalls if you think about a few things before you actually sign up and assign a url to your blog.
Here’s what I wish I had thought about before I signed up.
1. Is my intention to blog or to journal? There is a huge difference between blogging and journalling. Most new bloggers confuse the two. Here’s a great post for you to read that will help you identify the differences. It’s called Are You Blogging or Journaling by Sarah Perez. Sarah is one of my favorite bloggers.
2. Who do I want my audience to be? This makes a difference in the focus of your blog. Is it for your friends and family to connect with you? Or, are you looking to build a broader audience?
3. Do I want a hosted blog, stand-alone blog, or remotely hosted blog? If you have no idea what I’m talking about, Read Choosing the Right Blog Platform before proceeding.
4. What should I choose for a URL? Before you decide on a URL read How to Choose the Right URL. Take your time… and choose carefully.
Ok, got it all? I know these steps are taking you a few hours to complete, but trust me… You won’t regret being well prepared for your blog. You might just regret jumping into it without much thought.
Go For It! Sign Up… Almost ready to start blogging. Step 4 is on its way. Click Subscribe in order to get a notification when step #4 gets posted.
