So you want to start a blog? Step 2

by David on November 17, 2008

This is an easy, step by step guide to starting your own blog.

Step #1 Have a good understanding of what a blog is.
Step #2 is Find a blog platform.

There’s a lot of good blog platforms and they all have pros and cons. Some of the more common blog platforms are:

WordPress.com
TypePad
Blogger
tripod
squarespace

Have a good look at each one and play around with them a little bit. There are others too, so make sure you do some research. Talk to your friends. Have a good close look at blogs that you like and check out the platform they are using. My favorite is WordPress.org and also happens to be what I use. There are however, great reasons for using any one of them. I just like WordPress.org, and I’m used to it.

Just for clarification WordPress.com & WordPress.org are two different things. WordPress.org would be your choice if you have your own domain. Wordpress.com hosts your blog for you.

After you’ve made your choice. You’re almost ready to start blogging. Don’t get too over anxious and sign up quite yet! There’s a few things you need to think about before you do. I’ll share them in Step #3.

Your Homework for the next day or two is to do your research on the blog platforms. Stay tuned for Step #3!

Just a smidge of a hint from someone who has no right to give hints… pay attention to how you pick your passwords and user names for the two wordpresses. I get myself so confused trying which name and which password I need at any given time.
