Here’s a few quips and musings from the John Maxwell Build Your Dream Conference at Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
John C Maxwell
A dream is an inspiring picture of the future that energizes your mind, your will, and your emotions. It empowers you to do everything possible to achieve it
The first three questions to ask as you venture through your Dream Journey
1. Is my dream really MY DREAM?
- This is the ownership question. Live your own dream, not one someone else has put on you. When its truly your dream, you’ll step up. If you believe in yourself, invest in yourself. If you OWN your dream, you’ll have the tenacity and determination to achieve it.
2. Do I clearly see MY DREAM?
- If you have a fuzzy dream, you’ll give a fuzzy effort. You may not see the whole picture yet, but what you do see, you must see clearly.
3. Am I depending on factors within my control to achieve MY DREAM?
- It’s the reality question. John referred to this question as the one people have the tendency to miss the most. If our dreams aren’t based on reality, we have no shot at achieving it. It’s simply not true that if you want something bad enough, that you can have it. Ever seen the auditions from American Idol? The reality question also implies is that there are things outside our control as well. What’s outside of our control often makes the dream unrealistic. Disappointment is the gap between expectation and reality. Some circumstances are outside of our control. Abilities and gifts we don’t have are outside of our control. An unrealistic dream depends on unrealistic circumstances, a realistic dream depends on realistic circumstances. Your greatest growth comes when we are in the area of our greatest giftedness.
