It’s hard not to notice when one of your friends become a twitterer. Their blog, myspace, facebook, and other random sites get continuously bombarded with status updates. I confess, I’m a twitterer. A lot of you know it already. So here’s the question everyone’s been asking me; What’s Twitter, and why are you doing it?
The What
According to the unauthorized source we all love to go to Wikipedia…
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send “updates” (or “tweets”; text-based posts, up to 140 characters long) to the Twitter website, via short message service (e.g. on a cell phone), instant messaging, or a third-party application such as Twitterrific or Facebook.
The Why
I personally like to refer to twittering as micro-blogging. Basically, keeping up with friends, networking with associates, and creating interest in what you the twitterer find pleasure in. Every twitterer has their very own reasons for doing it. Here are mine…
Twittering has brought about a revolution what has been refered to as “Connected Consciousness” and I love it. Basically, it’s the ability we have in this day and age to connect and network with people from a variety of backgrounds. I don’t think I have all the answers. Collaboration matters to me. Twitter evokes collaboration, and there isn’t a single person in this world, that I don’t have something to learn from.
Twitter helps me manage and evaluate my schedule. I find myself looking back and see what I’ve been up too. When I change tasks throughout my day, It makes me consider the value of what I’m about to do.
Twittering generates interest in the things I’m passionate about. That may to a degree sound selfish, but its true. I want my life to count. I want it to have meaning. My personal objective in life is to make a difference in this world in a way that leaves a lasting legacy. Twitter won’t leave that legacy; I will.
Let’s face it… how many of you on my facebook & myspace, have wondered what on earth this twittering thing is?
There’s so many reasons to Twitter, and so many not too. Either way, we all have the option to do it, or not too. For now, its a fun thing for me. I’ll probably keep doing it until some new obsession comes along.

Hey Helbig. Thanks for the commentary. This helps me understand your Twitterers a lot better. How come none of us could have come up with these ideas so we could be the cool, rich people. :) Cool site, too. Looking forward to more good stuff!
