5 more thoughts from John Maxwell on Building Your Dream

by David on May 1, 2009

John Maxwell is ROCKIN it at the Build Your Dream Conference. It’s not the leadership stuff repackaged, it’s new, vibrant and passionate! Here are a few more questions that John urges us to ask on the journey to our Dreams.

4. Does MY DREAM compel me to follow it?
- it’s the passion question. People that lack passion give up quickly. Quitting is more about who you are then where you are. Passion gives you drive, determination, and tenacity. Passion pulls you up above the crowd, and ahead of the crowd. When you see people rise, its most likely driven by their passion. When you have passion, the spirit is better than the message.

5. Do I have a strategy to reach MY DREAM?
- The pathway question. Understanding changing minds, action changes lives! What is your action plan to help you get where you need to go? There are some things that get us to our dream, and there’s some things that aren’t getting us anywhere. Cut out the stuff that isn’t going to get you to your dream. Most people who fail to reach their dream do so because they’ve failed to focus and prioritze.

6. Have I included the people I need to realize MY DREAM?
- The people question. 1 is to small of a number to achieve greatness. Build a team around you, you can’t do it on your own!

7. Am I willing to pay the price for MY DREAM?
- It’s the cost question. The dream is free, the journey costs you something, and the price will be higher than you think. As you become successful, you have to keep making trade offs. The higher you get, the more costly the trade-offs. You have to give up to go up. Success has to rules, 1 pay the full price, 2 pay it in advance. There’s a major price extracted for achieving a dream.

8. Am I moving closer to MY DREAM?
- This is the tenacity question. During your journey, you’ll get weary. When you stop moving, the people, possibilities, opportunities and resources stop coming. You are the catalyst for your dream. Consistency and tenaciousness are the key. John’s Rule of 5 was worth the whole conference for me. Chip away EVERYDAY. 5 swings a day will take ANY tree down. John’s 5 – Read, Write, File, Ask Questions, Thinking.
